Application Services Administrator
The Kansas State University Office of Mediated Education is seeking applicants for the position of Application Services Administrator (ASA). The ASA provides services for the application development team working in the J2EE platform including server process maintenance and software installation and maintenance. The ASA works in the layer between the system administrators and the developers to provide a reliable and stable environment for application development and deployment.
Responsibilities include:
- Administration of servers including: Apache, OpenLDAP, JBoss/Tomcat, Helix, ProFTPD, Samba, webMethods and others as needed
- Maintain identical environments on development, alpha, beta and production servers and ensure proper operation of these systems
- Maintain source control for infrastructure applications and configurations
- Work with developers to debug problems on servers in all environments and assist with integration of new code into production systems
- Develop and maintain programs/scripts for automation and monitoring tasks
- Manage and maintain digital certificates on multiple servers
- Research new products and technologies and recommend purchases
- Management of server logs and producing reports for application development staff or clients as appropriate
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Experience maintaining enterprise level Java web application server
- 4 years experience in UNIX system administration
- Experience with administration of an RDBMS
- Experience with automated monitoring and management of complex systems
- Solid programming skills with emphasis on systems and automation programming
- In-depth understanding of network protocols with emphasis on those relating to web and application servers
- Strong troubleshooting/debugging skills in both a system and programming environment
- Familiarity with a revision control system
- Good verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field
- Experience with webMethods Integration Server, Broker, Monitor, Trading Networks, and Workflow administration
- Experience with Sun Solaris 9 and RedHat Linux AS 2.1/3.0
- Experience with Java programming (JDK 1.5, J2EE, EJB, JSP)
- Experience with Oracle 10g DBMS, Jboss/Tomcat, Samba, Apache web server, OpenLDAP, ProFTPD, uPortal
- Experience with PERL, shell scripting
- Experience with HTML, XML, XSL, JavaScript and CGI
- Experience with ant, maven, gmake, and CVS
- Experience with LDAP queries and database setup

Salary Range: $50,000 - $65,000
