K-State Online

Developed in 1998, K-State Online is the course management system for Kansas State University and serves faculty, staff, advisors, researchers, and students. It's generic version titled Axio Learning was released in 2005 at the request of several institutions wanting a system similar to K-State Online.

K-State Online is popular with both distance education and traditional face-to-face teaching and learning.

Development History:
  • 1996-97 – Early development
  • 1998 – First version of K-State Online released
  • 1999 – Student Roster import is automated
  • 2000 – Assignment Manager and Gradebook features released
  • 2001 – Tegrity 'Web Learner' System released
  • 2003 – eID required to sign in. Student Senate passed a resolution seeking that all faculty are required to use K-State Online.
  • 2004 – K-State Online 5.0 released which included Student Groups, Student Profiles, Manage Files upgrade, Chat Room upgrade, ability to attach files to the Message Board, and Statistical Reporting upgrade.
  • 2005 – July release of Axio 1.0 – Replaced Web Logic application server with JBoss applications server. This move reduced costs and improved reliability.
  • 2006 – K-State Online 6.0 released which included Horizon Wimba Live, Wildcat ID number (WID) in student roster, Assessment Suite upgrade, and HTML Editor upgrade.
  • 2007 – K-State Online 7.0 released which included a new Organizer, new navigation and design, Course Statistics, Attendance, Assignment and Content Gating, Practice Assignments, extra credit questions, Voice Recording tool within Manage Files, and ability to create multiple File Dropboxes.
